What They Do:

Medical records specialists gather, organize and maintain health information. The information they work with comes from paper records, electronic medical records and other electronic systems. Check for data and records for accuracy and assign codes for insurance reimbursement. Some of the data they manage includes patient information, medical histories, physician exams, test results, treatments and services provided.Records specialists often consult with healthcare professionals to make sure information is accurate. They must also follow best practices for security and patient confidentiality.
